Love Pierced
Translated by Patrick Chen
Turned around, the tired gaze slowly fell
Upon the deep courtyard of the high priest
Peter’s ashamed tears flowing down cheeks
The rooster crowed. The bonfire soared.
The whip cracked
Bits of flesh flew
A mud-smeared cloak claimed to be purple robe
A rotten reed in hand serving as a scepter
Is there an end to the path of sorrow? The five-inch nails await:
Nailed into the foot bones, nailed into the palms, nailed to the shame column
Suspended between heaven and earth, with no place to rest
The tattered garment fades away, revealing the Divine Son
The left breast pierced, blood flowing into
The most arid and barren and thirsting field of my heart
It is love.
